The Dangers of an Outdated Security System

February 9, 2021 By //  by Mike Will

A dependable security system is the best line of defense when it comes to protecting your employees and your company. But, are you missing out on key features and accessibility with an outdated system?

Security Risks
If your system is out of date you could be exposed to cyber security risks leaving yourself (and your business) vulnerable to lapses in coverage – and when it comes to safety, that’s the last thing you want.

Support is Unavailable
As equipment ages and technology evolves, manufacturers often limit or discontinue support for older systems. An outdated and unsupported security system cannot be relied upon to provide adequate security coverage, leaving your premises significantly more susceptible.

Decline in Video Recording
Aging systems have a tendency to lock up, reboot, stop recording, and can even fail to replay old footage. All of these issues can effectively render your cameras useless. Even if your system is running smoothly, older cameras can still face issues of their own. From outdated firmware being more susceptible to cyber-attacks to low resolution and lack of remote viewing, if you’re counting on outdated camera technology, you could be opening the door for bigger security issues down the road.

How can you tell if your system is out of date?
With how intricate some modern-day systems are, it’s important to have a partner who understands the software and equipment you’re running and is a proactive resource.

What Can You Do About an Outdated Security System?
Once you’ve figured out whether or not your system is outdated, it’s time to look at what other options and upgrades are out there. If you have an enhanced security plan, or a similar service agreement with an existing provider, you may have options built in to help you update your systems. In an ideal scenario, an ESP will have preventative maintenance and has replacement and update features included.

When you upgrade to a more current security system, you gain a new level of access and dependability. And more importantly, you gain a new level of peace of mind.

If you’d like to get a consultation about your current security system and see if you are in danger of using an out-of-date or unsupported system, give us a call. Will Electronics helps our customers evaluate security systems and keeps their business secure. Contact us online or by phone at (800)-973-2288.
