Neighborhood Security Initiative
The Neighborhood Security Initiative (NSI) was formed in 2007 to provide Central West End businesses and residents with a more efficient response to crime. The NSI works in cooperation with the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department and with supplemental security companies to unify prevention efforts and respond more quickly to crime as a community. The organization is sponsored by six Special Business Districts and the Washington University Medical School.
The Challenge
NSI currently employs three full-time personnel to monitor numerous residential and business districts throughout the Central West End. This territory consists of several city blocks spanning numerous neighborhoods. In order to make the most of their available resources, NSI needed to improve the capabilities of their existing camera network to provide better video quality. They also needed a flexible platform that would allow them to easily increase the number of cameras in the future.
The Solution
Will Electronics installed 18 new high-definition surveillance cameras with improved resolution and clarity, allowing officers to better identify suspicious persons in captured footage. Additionally, Will Electronics upgraded NSI’s monitoring station with improved software for their surveillance platform, allowing operators to maximize the full range of capabilities provided by the new cameras. For example, operators now have the capability to remotely access live feeds of the cameras for round-the-clock monitoring from any location.
